Campus Overview
Technical Institute of Victoria’s main campus is located near Melbourne’s Central Business District, easily accessible to all forms of public transport.
Our library has a good collection of essential texts, our computer labs are used for classes and also for students to use in their free time. In addition we provide a high speed internet connection. There is a student common area where students can relax in their break. We provide refreshments as well as access to microwaves and refrigerators.
Student Activities
Melbourne has lots to do all year round and with many free activities on offer you’ll never be bored. You can catch the free tram (city Circle) http://ptv.vic.gov.au/route/view/1112 which leaves approximately every 10 minutes for a guided tour of the city.
There are numerous buskers providing free entertainment as they sing, dance and play music for the shoppers each day in the CBD. Make sure you see as many of them as you can as you wander through the shopping centre.

At TIV
Activities for the students include trips and excursions to Museums, Victoria Market, State Library, War Memorial, Melbourne Zoo, Aquarium, Karaoke and a visit to local pubs and restaurants.
Students are also encouraged to join us in the different clubs we run:
Job Club – learn to write your cover letter and resume; look at different job options in Melbourne
Sports Club – Play a different sport every week, from Cricket, Soccer, Tennis, Beach Volley Ball to Ice skating, a game of pool/snooker and Bowling.
Explore Melbourne Club where students can join in exploring Melbourne with us; tour of Melbourne City in the Colonial Tramcar, Visiting Yarra Valley, Puffing Billy, Great Ocean Road and the Penguin Parade at Phillip Island.
We also have student party to mark important occasions such as ANZAC Day, Christmas Party, Easter Celebrations and Melbourne Cup.
The Couch @ Melbourne – Centre for International Students
A place you can go to socialize, meet new friends, participate in events, access the internet free and even have some dinner for free. Drop in and have a look at what’s happening. They will include you in their mailing list and send an email update every month on the calendar of events.

Studying, Working & Chill’n – International Student Information Day
This event is also held twice a year. This full day event provides useful information of adjusting to your student life here in Melbourne. You get to meet representatives from all the relevant organizations that can provide you with reliable information and all along with a free meal and entertainment. Check out Australian Federation of International Students (AFIS) website www.internationalstudents.org.au for updates on when the next event will be held. Globall Program
An initiative run by the Essendon Football Club & Cricket Victoria. Student Safety
Melbourne is one of the safest cities in the world in which to live, work and study. As with any big city, it is a good idea to get some local knowledge when you arrive. Talk to local people about areas they would avoid at night to ensure you are safe at all times.
All Victoria Police wear a blue uniform (either a jumper or a patrol jacket) and carry a Victoria Police badge. In an emergency you can contact the Police, Fire Brigade or Ambulance by dialing 000.
If you feel unsafe or threatened at any time, have anything stolen or are assaulted, you can contact the Police for help and report the incident. Should you prefer, you can ask someone you know and trust to contact the Police on your behalf. If you experience language difficulties when speaking with the Police, they will provide someone, free of charge, who speaks your language to address your issue.
If you require non-urgent advice or information or need to report a non-urgent matter, like lost property, you should attend or call your local Police Station.
